Hip and knee mobility
The Activator for Hip & Knee Issues
Support pre-hab, post-operation rehabilitation and everyday mobility with poles designed to encourage safer movement, better posture and a more natural walking gait.

Why will I benefit from using the Activator?
Physical rehabilitation for hip and knee problems typically involves exercises, stretches and other therapeutic work aimed at reducing pain, improving mobility and restoring function.
If you are planning, or have had, a hip or knee operation, modern medical care will usually include both pre-hab before surgery and a structured rehabilitation programme afterwards.
Use of the Activator for general hip and knee mobility, or as part of pre-hab and post-operation recovery, can support the following benefits.
Flexibility and range of motion exercises can help maintain or increase hip and knee joint mobility.
Gait training helps you walk more efficiently, with less pain and with better stride, posture and foot placement.
Greater mobility can rebuild confidence for everyday movement and reduce fear of falling.
Strength training helps stabilise the hip and knee joints by targeting the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, abductors and adductors.
Education and a home exercise plan help reinforce supervised rehabilitation and promote long-term progress.
Activator Poles support a faster, stronger recovery by helping you adopt a more normal walking gait sooner.

Designed to encourage safe, repeatable movement
Activator Poles are designed to encourage and enable more physical exercise and movement for whatever stage of hip or knee-related mobility you are currently enjoying, or are restricted to.
Use of the Activator Pole, supported by expert training and education, helps you continually improve how you use the poles and develop the key advantages needed to overcome problems associated with your hip or knee condition.
Always consult your healthcare team before starting a new exercise programme. The type and intensity of exercise should be tailored to your abilities and needs.
Specific Activator benefits for hip and knee mobility
The Activator is more than a walking pole. It is a rehab pole built to help users practise a more normal walking gait, reduce the strain of poor movement patterns and rebuild confidence.
- Four points of contact for better stability than a stick alone
- Support for pre-hab before hip or knee surgery
- Useful confidence support after hip or knee replacement
- Encourages upright posture and a more natural gait
- Can reduce stress on painful hip, knee and ankle joints
- Helps you practise controlled indoor movement before progressing outdoors

Alternative supports can help, but may encourage a less upright gait pattern.

Normal walking gait matters
Hip and knee pain can quickly change how you move. Activator Poles help you practise controlled, upright walking while supporting the body through four points of contact.
It is not just a walking pole
The Activator is designed through the lens of rehabilitation and movement practice. It provides stable support while encouraging posture, rhythm and repeatable technique.
For hip and knee conditions, that means you can practise walking and exercises in a controlled way while reducing the fear that often comes with painful or uncertain movement.

Precautions and advisory notes
- Consult your physician or therapist before using Activator Poles if you currently use crutches, a cane or a walker.
- Seek professional guidance if you have a condition affecting balance, vision or coordination.
- If you are recovering from surgery or an acute injury, ask your healthcare team before starting a new exercise routine.
- Maximum suggested user weight is 113kg / 250lbs.
- Ask your rehab professional how to use the poles on stairs.
- Do not use Activator Poles on slippery surfaces such as ice.
- Check your poles regularly and replace them if you see cracks, bends or stressed adjustment holes.
- Replace bell tips once per year or when the treads are worn out.
- Always use both poles for maximum safety and benefit unless your therapist prescribes one pole.
Use bell tips indoors and outdoors on dry pavements and roads. Only remove bell tips to expose the carbide tip when greater stability is needed on uneven terrain such as grass, trails, sand or snow.
Such use is recommended only once the user has attained good proficiency in normal gait walking and a good standard of balance. Walk before you run, and take small indoor steps before progressing outdoors.
